I only popped out to see the Health Junkies! i turned up at The Unicorn, for those who don’t know it’s on the Camden Road halfway between Camden Town & Holloway. If you are into all things Black/Death/Speed/Thrash Metal & Punk you will find it here. And its free!!
To be honest i did not want to go out due the effects of alcohol & the excitement of the night before, that is another story so i won’t bore you with that here.In my rough n ready state i walked from my humble abode to The Unicorn & arrived in time to see the the last couple of songs of Grim Dylan & i’ll be honest they sounded like a cat being strangled whilst having its balls tickled with a razor!!
The Health Junkies on the other hand are great!! Glam Punk with a sense of sleaze, energetic, melodic & raw. I’m listening to the album ”Sick Note” whilst i write this and its bloody brilliant!! it’s distracting me from my writing and i end up staring into space only to jolt myself back into the moment with a ”What the hell was i writing about?” Oh yeah, it was this!! They sound like swirly whirl of Siouxie, T Rex,L7 & Hole, tart & sour with a sweet heart topped off with cream!!!” Yes, i know i use food metaphor a lot in my writing!!!Speaking of T Rex there rendition of 20th Century Boy from the album ”Sick Note” is punchy, punchy & Punchy! I sense a sprinkling of The Joan Jets!! And the bass is not walking, it’s running!! Up hill down hill, over the bridge under the bridge, across the road, through the park, love it!! The track ”Witches Of Lust” which was played on the night is also punchy & full on with the opening guitar riff sounding like its being played on sharpened cheese wire under extra tension, this is accompanied by drums which are assertive & imposing & the bass keeping things on a nice even keel. Nina Courson adds the Theatre to the proceeding by using up every inch of the stage to express her sentiments. She’s hard to pin down for ”The shot” & her blonde hair is the ever present curtain which hides the font of expression. But the energy is infectious & even though i did not dance i was shaken out of my booze infused lethargy from the night before.
A good band and a must see if you like your attitude married to melody!!!
If you talk to her
Never want it again
